Matt Wilks

Matt Wilks is the Studio Manager for Joseph Furr Design Studio. A graduate of Parkview Baptist High School, Matt obtained a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from LSU in 1998. While at LSU, Matt was a member of the Tau Sigma Delta College of Design Honor Society and served as Vice President of the LSU chapter. In addition, he participated in numerous design competitions, including Design Week and the President’s Design Competition. Matt is an accomplished detailed designer and has extensive experience in custom design of site fixtures and detailed landscape architectural features. Upon graduation, Matt accepted a position with McDugald-Steele Landscape Architects and Contractors in Houston, Texas. Matt gained five and a half years of professional experience with McDugald-Steele, including three and a half years as a project manager.

While at McDugald-Steele, Matt was involved in the conceptual design, construction documentation and implementation of a wide variety of projects, including large-scale private residences and estates, multi-family housing communities, religious institutions, retail shopping centers and corporate campuses throughout Texas. At McDugald-Steele, he received the Grand Award from the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) for the design and implementation of a private residence in Houston, Texas. After his years in Houston, Matt decided to return home and accepted a position with JFDS as a project manager.

Matt has served as project manager with JFDS since 2003. He was promoted to the position of Studio Manager in 2006 and is responsible for the firm’s detail design development and production drawings. He has been directly involved with the production design and working drawings for most of the firm’s major projects since 2006. Matt led the design team for the North Boulevard Town Square in Baton Rouge and was responsible for the schematic design phases and production of the award-winning master plan. He has also led conceptual design through construction administration for the Welcome Center Park, a public green space within the Capitol Park master plan completed in January 2011. Matt has been involved in the design of urban spaces, sports and recreational facilities, schools and religious institutions while at JFDS. Matt assisted in the design and development of the New Orleans Upriver Greenway Corridor, Donaldsonville / Ascension Parish Riverfront Master Plan, Lighthouse Memorial Park and Plaza and the Welcome Center Park in downtown Baton Rouge. He also recently completed the design and construction documents for the plaza in front of the PMAC at LSU.


Louisiana State University
